How to setup a Day of Defeat: Source DOD Dedicated Server using Linux Ubuntu 64bit 14.04 LTS Server

A detailed step by step tutorial on How to setup a Day of Defeat Source (DOD) Dedicated Server using Linux Ubuntu 64bit 14.04 LTS Server. This video guide covers the install of your DOD Source multiplayer dedicated server on Ubuntu version 14.04 LTS 64bit however it should work on all the following Ubuntu platforms: 11.04 LTS (Lucid Lynx), 11.10 (Oneiric Ocelot), 12.04 LTS (Precise Pangolin), 12.10 (Quantal Quetzal), 13.04 (Raring Ringtail), 13.10 (Saucy Salamander), 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr) and 14.10 (Utopic Unicorn) 64bit Server Editions.

This tutorial uses the latest Steam ‘’ method and not the outdated hldsupdatetool.bin method that no longer works, also this addresses the problem of not being able to run the ./ by install the additional libraries using ‘lib32gcc1 and libc6-i386’ do not follow tutorials that mention ia32_lib as that is not required and will only bloat your install of Ubuntu. You will require roughly around 7-8 Gigabytes of hard drive space to install the Day of Defeat Source dedicated server and should work for most VPS, Dedicate Servers and Home Servers. If your using a broadband router then you will need to forward ports 27000-27040, ensure you take notice of the final minute which addresses port forwarding range.

Useful commands for copying and pasting:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo apt-get install lib32gcc1 libc6-i386
sudo adduser steam
su steam
wget inux.tar.gz
tar -xvzf steamcmd_linux.tar.gz
. /
login anonymous
force_install_dir ./dods/
app_update 232290 validate
./srcds_run -console -game dod +ip -port 27015 +map dod_anzio +maxplayers 24
